With spring just around the corner, the Town of Fort Fairfield is looking for volunteers to help man the town’s pump house during ice-out on the Aroostook River.  The right candidates for this temporary, paid volunteer position need only a little mechanical inclination, some free time on their hands come April, and a willingness to learn how to operate the pumps that are part of the flood prevention infrastructure along Main Street.

Ideally, volunteers need to be available to work up to an eight hour shifts on an on-call basis from late March through the end of April and will be compensated for their time and effort.  Shorter shifts may develop based on the volunteer pool.  The physical requirements are minimal and the right candidates will be trained to check the river flow gauges and operate the pumps when the water reaches flood stage.

For more information or to volunteer, please contact the Fort Fairfield Town Office at 472-3800.
