flood2014 2With spring just around the corner, the Town of Fort Fairfield is looking for volunteers to help operate the town’s pump house during ice-out on the Aroostook River.  The right candidates for this temporary paid volunteer position need only some free time on their hands come April and a willingness to learn how to operate the pumps that are part of the flood prevention infrastructure along Main St.
Ideally, volunteers need to be available to work up to an eight-hour shift on an on-call basis from late March through the end of April.  Volunteers will work in teams and will be compensated for their time and effort.  The physical requirements of the job are minimal and the right candidates will be trained to check the river flow gauges and operate the pumps when the water reaches flood levels.
For more information or to volunteer, please contact the Fort Fairfield Town Office at 472-3800.
